كتب سيرة هذا الشاب المبارك الأسقف المحبوب المتنيّح الأنبا يوأنس أسقف الغـربية لأنه كان صديقاً له، جمعتهما كنيسة الأنبا أنطونيوس بشبرا بالقاهرة، لذا فما دوّنه أبونا الأسقف عن هذا الشاب كان عن خبرة واقعية.
كان هذا الشاب – ويُدعى حبيب فرج – يسكن في حىّ شبرا بالقـرب من كنيسة الأنبا أنطونيوس، وكان يسد أذنيه عن سماع أى دعوة تُوجه إليه لحضور الكنيسة أو حتى أى إجتماع روحى سواء كانت هذه الدعوة من والديه أو من شباب الكنيسة. وتحت الإلحاح وافق على حضور إجتماع الشباب كمتفِّرج فقط. ولكن ما أن حضر هذا الإجتماع حتى أثـرت في نفسه الكلمات التى سمعها، ثم إضطرم قلبه بالأكثر لحضور الكنيسة و المواظبة عليها إثر رؤية مقدسة أبصر فيها السيدة العذراء وقد أرته فيها مكان عذاب الأشرار و المستهزئين . ثم أرته قصراً نورانياً عظيماً مكان راحة الأبرار المجاهدين. وفى وسط هذا النور البهى رأى كرسياً شاغراً فتعجب كيف يكون هذا الكرسى شاغراً في وسط هذا المكان المضىء. فقالت له السيدة العذراء: إن هذا هو كرسيك وهو محفوظ لك إن تبعت الـرب يسوع. ومنذ ذلك الوقت كان منظر هذا المكان لايفارق مخيلته.
منذ ذلك الوقت اصبح حريصاً على تقديس يوم الرب ( الأحد ) وكان لا يخرج من الكنيسة إلا بعد إنتهاء القداس الإلهى. أما حياته الداخلية فقد إتسمت بطابع النسك وهو يحيا في وسط العالم. كان أمينا في إتمام الصلوات الكنسية السبعة. أما الكتاب المقدس فلم يكن يفارقه. كان يكرس أصوام الكنيسة كلها إلى ساعة متأخرة.
كانت محبته للكنيسة الأرثوذكسية أمر يفوق التصور، فإهتم بتراثها وحفظ ألحانها، وكان يأبى على نفسه ولا يرضى لأحد أن يرنم ترنيمة غريبة عن ألحان الكنيسة المقدسة، وكان في تعليمه يحث الجميع على التمسك بتعاليم الكنيسة الأرثوذكسية مع محبة الجميع.
ولو أنه نشأ في أسرة فقيرة وعاش فقيراً إلاّ أنه كان عجيباً جداً في تصدقه بكل ما كان له في بعض الأحيان.
عاش عفيفاً حقاً وفكره مشغول بالسمائيات لذلك كشف له الـرب عن ساعة رحيله من هذا العلم. قضى فترته الأخيرة في ترنيم وتسيبح وصلوات مستمرة وإستعانة بالسيدة العذراء لكى يكون من نصيبه الكرسى الذى رآه.
وذكر نيافة الأنبا يوأنس أنه عند نياحة هذا المبارك وعندما قام إخوته خدام الكنيسة بغسل جسده وجدوه مرسوماً بصلبان طبيعية واضحة مما أثار دهشة الجميع وكان ذلك سنة 1941 وهو لم يتجاوز من العمر 27 عاماً.
وقد أثبت لنا هذا شاب أنه بحياة التوبة والقداسة الأمينة، والمحبة التى بلا رياء، وحياة التدقيق يمكننا بسهولة أن نعاين الـرب . بركته تكون معنا.
